And what you need when you pick up your puppy!

Purina ProPlan Puppy Shredded Blend Chic.webp

I start all my puppies on Purina Pro Plan Puppy Shredded Chicken and Rice Formula.  Keep your puppy on this until one year old and then transition to the Purina Pro Plan Adult Formula.

Your puppy is a large breed dog, and its bones and joints are not fully formed until that time.  This dog food is recommended by 6 different veterinarians.  It is very confusing to know what dog food is best for your precious pet because of the grain-free manufacturers' marketing hype which is confusing to the consumer.  FDA is doing research to find out why grain-free dog food is linked to DCM (dilated cardiomyopathy-heart condition). Until they have finalized their research vets are recommending that all breeds of puppies and adults be taken off of grain free. If you have any questions please talk to your veterinarian. They are professionals.  If your vet is not aware of the diet-related DCM you may very well want to switch vets because all vets are receiving information on how to treat it.

DAY 1.

WHAT DO YOU NEED THE DAY YOU PICK UP YOUR NEW PUPPY?

  1. Paper towels.

  2. Beach towel or blanket.

  3. Wipes.

  4. Plastic bag.

  5. Small crate if you already have one.  I wouldn't advise you to spend money on one if you don't already have one.  Some people use laundry baskets.  The puppy will grow out of this crate so fast that is a waste of money.  If you have someone that can ride along and hold the puppy that is the best way.  Less stressful on the puppy and you in the long run.  If you have a long trip, you may want a crate.

  6. DON'T TAKE YOUR PUPPY OUT TO POTTY ANYWHERE THAT MIGHT BE COMMON GROUND FOR OTHER PUPPIES OR DOGS!  Parvo is a wicked disease and will kill a puppy within a few days.  Parvo can be found everywhere but definitely in rest areas, puppy parks, pet store areas, fast food grassy areas and even at your veterinarian's office.  It can be found everywhere but those are the most common places.  It can live in the soil for a year.  Please be VERY careful with your new baby!

  7. Please bring a leash and collar. You may want to bring a bowl and bottle of water if you have a long trip.

  8. BUY or borrow a smaller plastic or wire crate for now and then the 42"LARGE CRATE with a divider so it will grow with your puppy.
